Shrimper is model for certification

A local shrimper is being used as a model for scientists developing the state’s wild-caught shrimp certification program after the Gulf oil spill.
Lance Nacio, a Dulac shrimper, is known for his superior shrimp handling processes, according to the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.
Nacio is a pioneer whose methods are being utilized as one model in wild shrimp certification.
“They set the standards pretty high, and we already meet all the standards,” Nacio said.
The certification program was proposed after the spill to provide means for Louisiana fishermen to ensure the quality of their catch and increase consumer confidence. Read the full article at Houma Today.
